Most Blogs are Freakin' Worthless Drivel

Observation: The content of this blog so far has been focused on the Dawgs; however, I feel a need to diversify, hence this post.

After you read this post, click that little "Next Blog" button in the top right corner of this page, and you'll see what this is all about.

I've been doing that on a daily basis lately - clicking the "Next Blog" button. Blogger has most blogs setup where you can click on that link and get taken, I'm assuming randomly, to another blog. I say randomly, because if you hit the Back button on your browser and then click "Next Blog" again, you'll be taken to a different blog than the previous time you clicked it from that page. Get it?

Anyway, I've been clicking to see what other content is out there. Blogger has a different "Blog of Note" on their home page every day, which is sometimes interesting, and apparently greatly increases traffic to your blog if you make the daily pick. The "Next Blog" random blog selection, however, produces a set of blogs that are mostly dead end off-ramps on the information superhighway. I reckon' we are still calling the internet by that name. Some of them remove the "Next Blog" button so you can't go forward. Others cause ridiculous pop-ups or pop-unders. Occasionally, I'll find one worth reading.

In general, I found nakedness, whining, advertising, and foolishness. So if you are interested, here's the details of what I found from a series of clicking the "Next Blog" button 45 times:

  1. 14 sites that were dead end advertising lists (link farms) setup to make money off the pay-per-click advertising revenue. I'm all for making money from advertising, but what the freak are these doing as blogs, and why the freak do the owners think someone is going to start clicking on the links, when they can read worthless poetry instead (see #3).
  2. 8 sites that were in a foreign language, of which 7 were Latin American, and one appeared to be German. I barely learned Spanish in high school and college, and all I can remember is my version of 70's slang in Spanish - chupada (sucker or sucka if you want to be true to the 70's phonetics).
  3. 6 blogs operating by people who think they can write poetry. Don't get me wrong, I like Edgar Allen Poe, but I'd rather have my poetry set to music and sang by Toby Keith, or given a little stage presence by Mike Myers than to read this crap on the internet.
  4. 4 blogs showcasing someone's photographic skills. I enjoy photography, so I guess this is a good way to showcase your talent. I read in WSJ this week that this dude is making a decent amount of money by selling a painting per day on his blog.
  5. 10 site that were basically about NOTHING. A bunch of daily/weekly/randomly entered journals about some chick's dog or cat or boyfriend, or all three. And it's all meaningless, worthless drivel.
  6. 3 that I have yet to characterize. These are typically the useful ones that link to other blogs with useful information. These I like.

Having said all this, I guess I can't put much emphasis on my blog being any better, but I'd like to think I'm providing an interesting analysis of a topic that one or two people might enjoy.

I'm sure I'll follow this up with a sampling of a larger number of blogs in the future, since there are millions of them on Blogger.com alone, so keep checking back.

So much for the weekly posts

I'm still recovering from the Sugar Bowl loss (yes, 9 months later). Ya gotta be proud of DJ, he played hard in the Sugar Bowl, and now he has a shot at the big time with a home crowd in Atlanta. I just hope JT is up to the challenge.

Thus begins the new Dawgs season. I'll be at most of the games this year, as I have been since my bro and I have been getting season tickets for 14 years. My plan is to post updates on or around game days, and maybe some tailgating pics. I had the same intention last year, but my disappointment attending the Auburn and Florida losses sidetracking my good intentions. This year, I'm expecting less from the Dawgs due to the rebuilding of the OL, QB, etc.

I'll just be happy if we beat Jean Shorts (Florida) this year. And Evil Genius. And Freakin' Tuberville. Oh, yeah, and the Geeks.

GO DAWGS!! Check out Dawgbone.net for some great links to Dawg news.
