Not Mourning, Just Disgusted.

I haven't written about the games for the past few weeks due to work obligations (atleast I'm telling myself that). I guess it boils down to being disgusted with the whole progression of this season. The season has progressed, the Dawgs have not. In fact, they seem to have regressed - atleast the defense has regressed.

I attended the loss to TN, took some friend from out-of-town to the Vanderbilt debacle, and gave away my tickets to Missy State.

I regret to say that I wussed out on going to Jacksonville. I had a ticket in a luxury box, and I had a ticket in the stands. I gave away both. However, I have a weird feeling that the Dawgs will be up to the challenge tomorrow.

Let's hope so.

Why Georgia will beat Florida

Let's call it The VaTech Factor. I have some good friends and coworkers that live in the DC area who are VaTech alumni. We have occassionally discussed the similarities between the teams and their ongoing issues. Some points that were made during the Vanderbilt game:

Both are consistently ranked at the beginning of the season, sometimes in the top 10.
  • Both tend to lose a game they aren't supposed to every once in a while (although not as much for the Dawgs under Richt)
  • Both started this season with a great defense - each with two shutouts in the first 4 games.
  • Both started the season with a 5th year senior as a first time starting quarterback
  • Both had a hard time scoring against good conference opponents.
  • Both lost two conference games in a row.

So why should the Dawgs win tomorrow? If you watched Thursday night football on ESPN, you realize that VaTech was an underdog, unranked, and playing a conference opponent ranked in the top 10 in the BCS and capable of putting large points on the board. That opponent, Clemson, only scored 7, and was never really a threat to the Hokies.

I never really make predictions, but today is an exception: Georgia 27, Florida 17

The funniest thing I heard all week

Snoop Dogg arrested for "suspicion" of marijuana and weapons possession. Dude, is he ever without either of those?

Streaking, Part II

My brother reminded me today about the post I had last year after the JTIII debut in Jacksonville. There hasn't been as much talk this year about the supposed "streak", but I did see it mentioned in 4 or 5 articles today. Read last year's post and you'll see why it NOT a streak.

During last week's postgame show, Dooley made a point to discuss the recent lack of success against the Gators by talking about the historical periods of success each team has had against the other. Like everything, it's cyclical. Florida fans seem to forget that Georgia had a pretty good "streak" going in the 70's and 80's, and that Georgia still owns the series, and will for quite some time.

It's not a streak people. Get over it. Time to reverse the cycle.

Stay Classy Tennessee

Former Georgia standouts may get arrested for DUI occasionally, but Tennessee products take a different approach to attempted murder: case in point, Albert Haynesworth of the Titans, who (as most have already heard) decided to stomp on the opposing team. Not figuratively, but literally - on the head - with the guy's helmet off. And this isn't the first such incident. He had a little problem with his temper when he was with the Vols too. Now I know Wikipedia can have erroneous information, but the following excerpt was backed up with links to news stories:

Albert Haynesworth (born June 17, 1981) is a current American Football defensive tackle for the Tennessee Titans in the National Football League. He is best known for stomping on the forehead of Dallas Cowboys center Andre Gurode in a game early in the 2006 NFL season.

Haynesworth played college football in the University of Tennessee. He has a history of issues with his temper. For example, while a sophomore at Tennessee, he fought with a teammate and left practice, returning with a long pole looking for tackle Will Ofenheusle before coach Phillip Fulmer stopped him. He was suspended for a half of a game. Another incident occurred at a Titans training camp, where he kicked center and teammate Justin Hartwig in the chest, and had to be restrained by teammates.[1]

Arrest warrants were issued against Haynesworth in two Tennessee counties in May of 2006 stemming from a traffic incident on Interstate 40. Both sets of charges were dropped in June of 2006. The Judge in the Putnam county case tossed the charges on the grounds that the alleged offense happened out of their jurisdiction. In Smith county, the district attorney dismissed the charges. [2]

You Stay Classy Phat Phil.

Landscape Architecture: Flag Planting

For those that didn't remember, and I'm one of them (HT The Hobnailed Boot), the punks from TN planted their flag on the G in the center of Sanford Stadium when then won 2 years ago. That game also involved a rotation of quarterbacks - by Tennessesee - Ainge and Shaeffer (sp?). I had remembered the loss, and even discussed it with my brother earlier today. I had fogotten about the rude flag planting. I do recall that Richt's team last year had the class to NOT do that in Knoxville. Here's to keeping the Vowels from doing that this year.

Watch this video (HT EDSBS) for some inspiration:
